What is the study about?
The study is investigating how have schools have responded to the current Covid-19 lockdown measures and what impact these changes have had to teaching, learning and mental well-being among secondary students (14-15years/yrs 10 and 11) in Leicester city? Understanding your responses to the school closures and the impact the interruptions and/or modifications have had to your mental well-being would be really helpful, as it could help to inform and improve future funding and practice
Why have I been chosen?
You have been invited to participate because you are a secondary year student in Year 10 or 11 at a school in Leicester city school.
What if I do take part and then change my mind?
You can withdraw from the survey at any time up to 6 weeks after the survey, without giving a reason. You can also ask for your video or audio log to be withdrawn from the study up to six weeks after the survey, without giving a reason.
What does the study involve?
You are being asked to take part in a survey and a vlog (video blog) or audio log. In the first part of the survey, you will first be asked to answer a few questions about your mental well-being. Following this you will be invited to record and upload a vlog (a short video blog) in which you can discuss your experiences of the current school closures and well-being, or respond to one or more interview questions that focus on your thoughts of school closures and your well-being. Please note that you can complete an audio recording instead if you do not feel comfortable to complete the video blog. Please also be aware that you are under no obligation to complete this vlog or audio log, you can still complete the survey without submitting the vlog.
Do I have to take part?
It is entirely up to you to decide whether or not you would like to take part. If you do decide to take part, please could you complete the consent questions below. Please tick each of the boxes. If you decide that you would like to take part, you are still free to withdraw from the study up to 6 weeks after the survey, without giving a reason.
What if something goes wrong? / Who can I complain to?
If you have a complaint regarding anything to do with this study, you can initially approach the lead investigator by email slrc@dmu.ac.uk.
